The Centenary Camp
Louth and Skegness New Centenary camp
100 years have passed and now we celebrate the dawn of the new centenary.
Over the Centenary weekend Scouters from both the Louth District and the Skegness & Spilsby District came together to celebrate at the Manby show ground, with all sections participating.
The atmosphere was amazing, the Cubs and Scouts arrived on the Friday night and after setting up camp they embarked on a night hike. When the Beavers arrived on the Saturday morning the camp was in full swing.
As the opening ceremony took place, we had glorious weather all afternoon with activities for everybody to enjoy. Many had the opportunity try out at canoeing and sailing, as well as a number of on-site activities such as archery and abseiling.
The Skegness Army Cadets came down to lend a hand with some team building games, the Scout Activity Crew provided many activities and camp services through out the weekend to ensure everybody enjoyed themselves and to try something they might not normally do.
The rain came but it didn't’t dampen our spirits, many took refuge in the craft tent, the Guides and Fellowship members came down, and pyrography, candle making, leatherwork and woggle making were just some of the crafts available. Everybody really enjoyed themselves, and - as well as having a load of wet and dirty washing - they had something they had made to take home too.
The rain didn't’t stop our celebrations by any means; some groups bailed the downpour on the Sunday evening, but didn't’t leave without a fun-filled weekend. Our campfire helped to boost everybody’s sprits even the Leaders that had worked hard all day. There were songs and sketches from all sub-camps and everyone was keen to join in.
The mud and rain disco was a different experience for most with party food and a big centenary birthday cake made by District Commissioner, Alyson Selby.
We partied long into the night with music and fireworks before some of the Cubs and Beavers retreated for a sleep over in the gym, where some of the activities had taken place during the day.
Despite the weather we were all Prepared, had fun and made new friends it was good for Scouts from two different Districts to come together and make the most of a wet weekend.
The Beavers had had their first real taste of Scouting adventure, and the memories will stay with everyone for years to come. I am sure after this event everybody is looking forwards to the other celebrations that the year holds after a long earned rest.

Louth District Explorer Scout &
District Young Spokesperson.

Scouting Sunrise
Last
Summer on 1st August 2007, Scouts world wide renewed
their promise at 8am local time, and Beavers, Cubs scouts,
and explorers from the Louth District came together,
to celebrate and reflect on the past 100 years of Scouting,
and the dawn of the new Centenary of scouting. Hot dogs,
games and a sand castle completion on the beach made
it a fun and memorable day for all. |

High Ropes
By: A Sutton On Sea Scout.
This was out last camp of the year at High Ropes Adventure
near Market Rasen. There was a theme to this camp, but
we were not told what is was until the end.
The camp site is very dark so we played games at night
in the woods. It was good fun as we had to get balloons
between bases without being caught by people in the other
team. People kept falling down ditches and running into
trees!
We did lots of activities on the Saturday. This included
feely boxes, which contained horrible foods like cold
beans or mashed up Weetabix. We also did a taste test
on crisps hand had to work out what flavor they were.
For lunch we had to make our own sandwiches with one
hand in a sling. We also had to eat our food like this
and wash up too. This was very difficult as it was our
good hand that was in a sling.
During the afternoon we followed a rope course blindfolded.
This was very funny as our leaders kept changing the route
of the course, making us walk up dead end and walk head
first into other scouts.
We also had to a race through the woodlands with our
legs tied together using a pair of crutches. We kept falling
over whilst doing this and got very muddy.
On the morning we left we went to the High Ropes Adventure
Course which involves climbing towers and using rope swings
and bridges. We finished by going down the zip wire to
get off the course.
We also did some traditional Scouting camping, including
tent inspection, camp-fire and Scout Own.

Beavers at Eureka
By Hayden of 4th Louth Beavers
I liked the Eureka trip, In one of the experiment there was a man falling into a a bath of water, and the water splashed all over me!
It was fun at eureka, when we had lunch a wasp was flying round, and round, and round my head.
It landed on my sandwich and I chased it round the field five times! After Lunch I went to the sandpit and build a sand castle.
Then it was time to go, and dad collected me,
I had a fantastic time at Eureka!

Fishing Trip
We have been fishing a few times at Oham Lakes outside Mablethorpe.
Some of our Scouts have done their theory work and earned
their anglers badge.
I have only just moved up to Scouts from cubs and this was
my first time fishing. I caught 9 fish and was very happy.
It was very hard to get the maggots on the hook and the fish
off the hooks.
I really enjoyed my evening but it was very cold. |

County Night Hike
We arrived at 6:30 for a sleepless evening. After pitching
our tents we had to unpack and re-pack our bags to make sure
that we had all the equipment we needed. After a quick briefing
we were set off in groups and had to make it round the course
and complete the different bases on route.
We set off at 7pm and did not get back into 3am. We got to
some of the bases but on of our members wasn't’t very well so
we didn’t get very far round the course.
All Scouts who participate were presented with a certificate. |

Kayaking
Some of the scouts from sutton on sea have been on a canoeing course where they learnt
different techniques of paddling forwards, backwards and in
circles. they learnt how to stop themselves from capsizing and
what to do if they did.
The scouts said: Once we get to a certain level we can get a badge for canoeing
but we are not good enough yet. We will practice again this
summer but it is too cold to go in the winter.
